Banner 1, Primus

Just in time for their show at the KettleHouse Amphitheater, Primus has released a new song and announced their album release date. The odd-ball experimental rock, funk-metal group will be joined by special guest Clutch this Friday, Aug 11th.

The album, The Desaturating Seven, is due on Sept. 29th from ATO records. It features the seminal Primus lineup for the first time since 1995, with bassist Les Claypool, guitarist Larry LaLonde and drummer Tim Alexander.

“The Seven” (listen above) is the first released single and peek at what the group has in the works. The accompanying artwork and content was inspired by a kooky children’s book Claypool used to read for his kids called The Rainbow Goblins. Claypool comments on what he has deemed “Goblin Rock,” saying…

“The dark imagery and beauty of the art struck me immediately and I thought, ‘this would make good fodder for a piece of music.’ The use of color and darkness both in the paintings and the writing was compelling and now, near two decades later, the metaphor of greed, gluttony and deceit vs unity of the masses is eerily relevant.”

Tickets for Friday’s show are still available online, over the phone at (877) 987- 6487, or at The Top Hat’s box office in downtown Missoula. RSVP to the Facebook event page to join the conversation. More information on the event, venue and ticketing can be found here.
