Soulful and Funky: Down North Opening for Dirty Revival

With a style of funk that pulls the genre in a fresh and modern direction, Down North is set to return to The Top Hat on July 21st. The group has been touring the last five years; collecting material and perfecting their live set to a T. Furthermore, 2017 represents their third time playing The Top Hat since its grand re-opening back in the spring of 2013.

A Seattle-based outfit, Down North will provide an excellent sonic compliment to Portland-based headliner, Dirty Revival. Down North lights up the stage with their own brand of neo-soul. High-energy front man, Anthony “RenaGade” Brisco sings with a conviction reminiscent of the king of pop himself.

Brisco is joined by Brandon Storms who mixes slap-bass with deep synth for a groovy bassline. Completing the pocket is Conrad Real on drums; whose chops you may recognize from Grammy-award winning Digable Planet’s tracks. Sailing above the funky-swagger are psychedelic-jazz guitar lines from Nick Quiller that intertwine with Brisco’s vocals.

Even moving a non-fan of funk to second guess herself (Megan Seling), the constantly touring musicians are known for an enthusiastic live performance. They just finished a run of raw recording at Electro Kitty Studios in their home town of Seattle and are in the process of mixing the material to tour on.

Funk and soul fans in Missoula can expect nothing less than a night of wild energy and dancing at The Top Hat on July 21st. The best part? The show is FREE! More information on the performance can be found here.
