Tiny Plastic Stars Update: New Song! New Show!
Prepping fans for their album release party on July 14th, local psychedelic-rock unit Tiny Plastic Stars has released a new single from their anticipated album Sleepy Eyes. Titled “Randy’s Desert,” the release delivers the band’s signature psychedelic power-rock vibe. The release party will be a FREE show held at The Top Hat.
Heavy compression on the guitar riffs sent through a pedal chain, develops the dreamy beach-rock production value reminiscent of Oddness from King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Dreaminess is driven by a quick-moving, bumpin’ bassline. When band founder and vocalist, Riley Roberts, enters; the influences of early Tame Impala recordings ripple across the track.
Randy’s Desert was the last song written for the album in February 2017. The song title is the name of a field on a ranch in Sheridan, MT, where Roberts’ works seasonally. Thematically, the album represents:
“a reflection of a man’s childhood and the events that take place as a boy that lay the stepping stones, guiding him through the rest of his life.”-Riley Roberts
On July 14th, Riley will be joined by band members Dan Miller (drums) and Josh Bacha (bass). The trio recorded Sleepy Eyes at Levitation Recording and Tapes in Missoula. Fans can expect a more “3D” sound on the new album, in comparison to previous bedroom recordings on Pretty Well and Wasted (see here).
The full album is scheduled to release on June 30th 2017, after which the boys will venture out on tour. Influences for the group’s unique soundspan from Blackwater Prophets to Black Sabbath, to The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Lovers of psychedelic rock and local music alike should find their way to The Top Hat in downtown Missoula on July 14th.
