The Return of the Montana Comic Reggie Watts

“I want to make stuff from my mind.”, whispered Reggie Watts through the phone. This is the voice of musical comedies offbeat mastermind. A Montana native with the largest asymmetrical Afro atop any comic’s head.

Reggie is calm when performing, an almost omniscient demeanor surrounds him. “I require no preparation, fully improvised just feels natural.”. Reggie’s words make sense when watching his live sets. In between songs he gives the audience hilarious impressions and contemplations with delivery that is both precise and disorientating. Pure genius.

This style evolved in Reggie’s youth, days spent playing Dungeons and Dragons in Great Falls. A town lacking creative voices when Reggie was in high school. Despite this setback, he found inspiration in being able to create whatever he wanted. “The town made me who I am, and that’s all an artist really is.”, said Reggie reminiscing.

That artist Reggie talks about has become a top shelf comic. Few artists create music that is unique and relies solely on itself; Reggie uses his voice to create everything.

The exact opposite of pop artists who rely on songwriters and sex appeal. “Man I would hate that for myself”, Reggie said in contemplation. “… having to get plastic surgery would suck”.

Dec 16th is Reggie’s annual Christmas time show at the Wilma. Local comedian Chris Fairbanks will open. This show is for lovers of creativity, “just two Montana boys doing their thing, coming back home”.
