JUST ANNOUNCED: Hip Hop Duo Blackalicious to Make Triumphant Return to Missoula
Acclaimed progressive hip hop duo Blackalicious will make their way to the Top Hat for an eagerly awaited concert performance on September 3, 2018. Due to health issues, Blackalicious had to cancel their Missoula performance in 2016, so their announcement to return has been highly anticipated.
The duo consists of the Gift of Gab and Chief Excel, who originally met while attending the same high school in Sacramento, California. In 1995, they released their first EP Melodica via the underground hip hop label Solesides Records. Solesides transitioned into the now well known Quannum Projects label, which in 1999 put out the first Blackalicious LP, Nia.

Since then, they’ve released three more albums: Blazing Arrow in 2002, The Craft in 2005, and it wasn’t until 2015 that they released their next and most recent album Imani Vol. 1. Both Gab and X explored other musical projects during the decade break.
Between the collective innovation of Gab’s verbal dexterity and X’s distinctive soundscapes, Blackalicious has earned a great deal of respect from the hip hop community.
