Witty, Indie Alt-Country: Jonny Fritz, Izaak Opatz, and Leslie Stevens to Co-Headline Top Hat
Montana natives Jonny Fritz and Izaak Opatz are joining Los Angeles based singer songwriter Leslie Stevens for a talent packed co-bill at the Top Hat on Saturday, August 11, 2018.
Jonny Fritz is originally from Missoula, Montana, but was raised in Virginia and moved to Nashville and then Los Angeles to further his exploration of life and music. In L.A., he met My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James. Fritz recorded his most recent album Sweet Creep in James’ makeshift hilltop studio in Montecito Heights. Sweet Creep was ranked #14 on Rolling Stone Magazine’s 40 Best Country Records of 2016.

Sweet Creep features the song “I Love Leaving,” which was cowritten by Izaak Opatz who was born and raised in Whitefish, MT. Opatz has been very active in the Missoula music scene, fronting the country rock band The Best Westerns. In February 2018, he released his debut solo album Mariachi Static, which was recorded at Malachi DeLorenzo’s home studio in L.A. Malachi is the drummer in Fritz’s band.
Leslie Stevens was recently named as “Best Country Singer” in the 2018 LA Weekly’s Best Of feature. She’s been compared to the likes of Patsy Cline and Emmylou Harris and has sung on records by Jim James and Father John Misty. Stevens’ also performed live with Joe Walsh, Jackson Browne, and John Fogerty.
