Thursday, October 18th
Dreamers

DREAMERS is Nick Wold (vocals/guitar), Nelson (bass/vocals), and Jacob Wick (drums).  They aesthetically embody psychedelia but contrary to what these psychedelic visions may musically imply, DREAMERS plays smart pop. The 12 tracks on the trio’s debut LP This Album Does Not Exist sizzle and spark with three-minute tunes to perk you up and make you shake.

They seek to counter the crassness of pop, the snobbery of jazz, and the pretention of indie that zaps the fun out of music with meaning. Yet, they want to draw you in, indiscriminate of taste, style, or ideology.

Friday, October 19th
Youngblood Brass Band

Youngblood Brass Band flouts convention in an ecstatic, raucous, incendiary fashion, taking the form of a New Orleans brass band and morphing it into a punked-out hip-hop behemoth of groove and purpose. The ten-member ensemble, born in Madison, Wisconsin, now hails from all over the US (Madison, Brooklyn, Nashville, Minneapolis, Chicago) and has been unleashing their crash course in genre-bending on stages worldwide since 2000.

What other band can claim the honor of having their music spun by DJs like Questlove (of The Roots), working with hip-hop luminaries like Talib Kweli, having their original compositions performed by student marching bands and jazz ensembles around the globe, and still not be out of place at a punk festival?

Saturday, October 20th
The Last Revel & Danny Barnes

From the storied music scene of the Upper Midwest comes the cutting edge Front Porch Americana soundscapes of The Last Revel. This powerfully talented collective of songwriters from Minneapolis, Minnesota so naturally blends the genres of Folk, Old Time String-Band and Rock to create a sound that is as equally original as it is timeless. Drawing influence from their salt of the earth Midwest ethos the band’s songs are roots in the characteristic that has made that region the heartbeat of America.

Widely regarded as one of the most innovative and genre-bending artists of his craft, Barnes’ musical interests are both varied and adventurous, and he incorporates that versatility into a progressive approach to an instrument that is musically polarizing and steeped in tradition. Although he demonstrates an appreciation for the history of the bluegrass, country, and folk music from which the banjo’s reputation was born, his inventive take is what truly separates him from his contemporaries…using the banjo as his ‘weapon of choiceʼ to play non-traditional music like rock, fusion, and jazz with electronic percussion and loop elements.
