Greensky Bluegrass and The Lil Smokies to Team Up for Summer Concert in Montana

For the second consecutive year, progressive bluegrass mainstay, Greensky Bluegrass, will return to Montana for a headlining concert at KettleHouse Amphitheater on Friday, June 28, 2019. This time, they’ll be joined by very special guests, Missoula-bred bluegrass titans, The Lil Smokies.

Greensky played in August 2018 and Smokies opened for Trampled by Turtles in July. Check out the photo galleries here and here respectively.

Both bands have drastically grown in popularity over the past several years. Each of them have worked their way up from small shows around Missoula to booking spots at The Wilma and KettleHouse Amphitheater, in addition to headlining national tours and festivals.

Aside from their prolific touring, Greensky has had some major success with their studio work. In 2014, If Sorrows Swim bowed at #1 on the Billboard Top Bluegrass Albums Chart, while the 2016 follow-up Shouted, Written Down & Quoted cracked the Top 3. Along the way, they have also earned praise from BillboardAXSWestword, and more.

Although Greensky isn’t from the Big Sky state, they’ve developed a love for the Montana music community, which you can tell from their song, “200 Miles from Montana.” They’ve also been instrumental in the fellow success of their friends, The Lil Smokies.

The Lil Smokies have earned a plethora of awards in the past 6 years, winning the 2013 Northwest String Summit Band Competition and the 2015 Telluride Bluegrass Band Competition. They were also the 2016 IBMA Winner for Momentum Band of the Year and have been voted as Missoula’s Best Band four times.

Playing along the banks of the Blackfoot River in mid-summer sets a premium stage for any act, but seeing this talent packed bill on a Friday night in late June is just about as good as you can get.
