Progressive rock sextet Umphrey’s McGee will make their highly anticipated return to Montana with a concert at KettleHouse Amphitheater on Saturday, August 3, 2019. Rising jam rock quartet Pigeons Playing Ping Pong will perform a special high flying opening set.
Umphrey’s and Pigeons are known for their extravagant, unpredictable and highly energetic live concerts. Each performance is different from the last, as Missoula can certainly attest to. Pigeons have been stopping at the Top Hat for headlining shows the past several years and Umphrey’s have become a favorite of Missoulians over the past decade.
Umphrey’s McGee played to a packed Wilma theater two night’s in a row in March 2017 — performing two unforgettable shows — and returned in March 2018 for another night of in-your-face rage rock as they celebrated their band’s 20th anniversary. Not many artists can effortlessly flow from heavy metal headbangers to ethereal electronica, but that’s exactly the type of genre melding sonic wizardry you can expect from Umphrey’s.
Over the past two decades, they’ve played 2,200 gigs and have sold over 5 million tracks. They became the “first group to launch its own single artist streaming service” with UMLive.net, which houses recordings of every gig since 2005. They innovated the fan’s live concert experience with their groundbreaking “Headphones & Snowcones” program, granting fans access to professional headphones and a soundboard-quality mix at shows. In 2018, they released their 11th studio album it’s not us which was followed by a surprise 10-track album, it’s you, later that year — an excellent representation of the band’s prolific career.
Not to mention, Umphrey’s McGee has one of the most stellar light shows out there. We can’t wait to see what it looks like on a summer evening, between the mountains, along the banks of the beautiful Blackfoot River.
