The band is made up of members hailing from Ukraine, Ecuador, Russia, and Ethiopia and are known for their highly unique and untraditional style. They formed in 1999 and released their debut album Voi-La Intruder that same year. Since then, they’ve released six more albums. 2007’s Super Taranta! was #14 on Rolling Stones list of the Top 50 Albums of 2007.

Pop Matters gave their 2013 LP, Pura Vida Conspiracy, 9 out of 10 stars, saying “Gypsy folk punk may be too idiosyncratic to ever be mainstream. That said, if there ever was a Gogol Bordello album that deserves to launch them onto American radio waves, it’s Pura Vida Conspiracy.”

Their most recent album, Seekers and Finders, came out in 2017. Glide Magazine said “Seekers and Finders proves that melding styles, sounds and cultures, while savoring the moment, is the best we can all do and exactly what Gogol Bordello exceeds at.”

Gogol Bordello contributed to the film score for 2005’s Everything Is Illuminated, which featured costars Elijah Wood and Gogol frontman, Eugene Hütz. There was also a scene in the movie where the whole band could be seen playing Star-Spangled Banner.

Released in 2008, Gogol Bordello Non-Stop, is a documentary about the band’s rise to success from 2001 to 2007.
