The song is the second single off the band’s forthcoming album, Sweet Little Lies, slated to drop on May 3rd. “Carolina,” their first single off the album, was released late this March.

Here’s what Lena “Laney” Schiffer had to say about the song:

Almost everyone has experienced the end of a relationship, and the single “Time or Tears” speaks of the moments leading up to a breakup and the self-realizations that follow. Coming from a first person perspective, the subject reflects on what went wrong, coming to the conclusion that she doesn’t have the time to waste on something that is leading her off course. Although the song starts with a bitter tone, the journey of the song “Time or Tears” ends in an uplifting and yearning plea to be free and to be authentic, whether she is speaking to her partner or to herself.

This song took me three years to finish. When I first started writing it I had the chorus and two verses, but I hit a wall. The overall theme was there but I didn’t know how to conclude the story. I returned to the song multiple times throughout the past years, knowing that it had potential for the band. Over the course of two relationships, I learned quite a few lessons, and by the end of the second one, the message that I wanted to convey finally became clear to me. The third verse poured out of me one night through some self-reflection. I brought it to the band and they helped compose the rest of the song with me, adding the ultimate Bird Dog feel.”

The song was recorded at Prairie Sun Recording in Cotati, CA, produced and engineered by Brad Dollar, and mastered by David Glasser.

The band funded the album through a Kickstarter campaign in November 2018. Lena said that they’re very thankful to their fans, adding “We were able to pick a top notch recording studio and an incredible engineer and producer, as well as fund the travel to and from CA, and all of the production involved. We are truly grateful to everyone who contributed. We’re very excited to be releasing these songs to the public on May 3!”

The band is stoked for the Afterparty, saying:

“We are thrilled to be a part of the afterparty. It is bound to be an evening full of continuous, wonderful folk and roots music in Missoula between the Wilma, the Top Hat, and the River City Roots Festival.”
