Purple Reign: Portland Cello Project Plans Tribute to Prince in Missoula
The Pacific Northwest’s esteemed alt-classical ensemble Portland Cello Project will return to the Wilma on April 16, 2020 for Purple Reign — their special take on the music of rock icon — Prince.
RSVP to the Facebook event
PCP will be joined by musicians who’ve worked with Prince such as Saeeda Wright and Tyrone Hendrix to create a lively evening of diversely-curated music that influenced or was influenced by The Purple One. They’ll also seamlessly weave in some of their renditions of Bach and Beck.
“This indie orchestra gives classical music a jolt of energy,” – Spin Magazine
Since 2006, Portland Cello Project has become a nationally-recognized revolving cast of cellists. They’ve appeared anywhere and everywhere in North America, from punk rock clubs to symphony halls, from street parties to exclusive private events.
“The PCP has come to epitomize Portland’s offbeat music scene, one where boundaries are blurred and cellos are in abundance.” – The Strad
Under the artistic direction of Douglas Jenkins, the group has grown and evolved, working with an all-star group of cellists in the Pacific Northwest. The group developed a three-part philosophy that has mostly remained unchanged over the years: To bring the cello places you wouldn’t normally see it, perform music on the cello you wouldn’t normally associate with it, and build bridges between different musical communities.
