Primus Will Pay Tribute to Rush When They Return to KettleHouse Amphitheater

Experimental funk metal band Primus will return to KettleHouse Amphitheater on July 23, 2020 — this time presenting A Tribute To Kings! The special show will feature Primus performing Rush’s entire classic album, A Farewell to Kings. Longtime fans of Primus will be happy to know that the band will be playing original tunes as well. The concert will also include opening performances from Wolfmother and Battles.

This will be Primus’ third time playing at the Amphitheater and will mark the 4th year in a row that the band’s bassist/frontman Les Claypool has played the venue… making him the only artist to play at the Amp every year since it opened. Les played with Primus at the Amp in 2017 and 2018, then performed as the Claypool Lennon Delirium in 2019. For good measure, Primus also sold out the Wilma in November of 2019

Aside from Les, Primus consists of guitarist Larry “Ler” LaLonde, and drummer Tim “Herb” Alexander. They began their journey as cult rock heroes with the acclaimed albums Sailing the Seas of Cheese (1991), Pork Soda (1993), and Tales from the Punch Bowl (1995) — all of which went gold and or platinum.

Their most recent album The Desaturating Seven was released in 2017 and was inspired by the children’s book The Rainbow Goblins. PopMatters’ Chris Conaton called the album “the tightest, most focused album of Primus’ career.” Possibly though, Primus’ greatest work does not come from their records, but rather while it’s experienced live and in your face.
