Haunting on Higgins: A Night of Funk with Reverend Slanky and Desperate Electric at The Wilma

BOOOO! Did we scare you? Okay maybe not. Scaring people might not be our forte, but music and parties definitely are!

We’re inviting everyone to The Wilma on Saturday, October 30, 2021 for A Haunting on Higgins: A Night of Funk with Reverend Slanky and Desperate Electric!

A day before Halloween proper, The Wilma will be transformed into a cobwebbed house of horrors, centered around the freaky funk of longtime Missoula favorites Reverend Slanky, and Bozeman’s electro-soul duo Desperate Electric.

Reverend Slanky has been busting out infectious dance grooves since the mid 2000s, delivering Montanans a slew of unforgettable nights. These guys are complete with a horn section, multiple percussionists and party-rocking tunes that’ll get The Wilma shaking.

Desperate Electric, a newer name to the Montana soul scene, is fresh off their catchy single “Vacation” and will awaken the spirits with their steezy blend of live instrumentation, killer beats and powerful vocals.

We shouldn’t even have to say it, but just to clarify, costumes are completely, totally and definitely encouraged! We want everyone to go all out and make this a Halloween party to remember! We’ll also be serving a special “witches brew” in addition to The Wilma’s usual full bar, so come thirsty.

And come to get weird. After all, Halloween is a time to let your freak out — especially when there’s an evening of funk involved. So mark your calendars for Saturday, October 30th and we’ll see all you at A Haunting on Higgins. If we can blow this party out, we might have to make this return for a sequel next year!

Desperate Electric

Dubbed ‘electro soul brilliance’, the Montana based duo, Desperate Electric, ‘enlists a perfect combination of live instrumentation with killer beats and all the bells and whistles under the kitchen sink’ (Indie Pulse Music, 2020). Consisting of Ben Morris (guitar, keys, vocals, production) and Kayti Korte (bass, vocals), the pair fuse their many influences to create a sound that’s both contemporary and nostalgic of past decades of funk, rock ‘n roll, and soul.

Formerly known as DASH, Desperate Electric had a rocky start. The twosome began DASH with the intent to create and maintain a 4-piece rock band. During their first year as a band they released their debut album, ‘SUPER’, and began to tour regionally. Two weeks prior to their second regional tour they found themselves suddenly and unexpectedly without a drummer. Unable to find a replacement two weeks away from the tour, and rather than cancel the dates, they worked to find an alternate solution. Using his experience producing beats in college, Ben took on the task of creating MIDI drum tracks for their entire catalogue. By the end of the tour they found themselves also without a bass player, and upon returning to their hometown of Bozeman, MT their rock ‘n roll band was stripped down to just the two of them. The following week, they recorded the first music that would foreshadow their current sound—the ‘Desperate Electric’ EP; named from the experience of going electronic out of pure desperation and sheer willpower to keep the show on the road. Desperate Electric continues to tour the country and put music out, with the release of their album ‘Still Not Giving You Up’ in May 2020, and several additional singles. Stay tuned for their next release in 2021.
