Staff Picks: Favorite Show + Album of 2022

The end of 2022 is approaching. Now’s the time we look back on all the fond memories and great live music we experienced this year. A couple of weeks ago, we asked you what your favorite show was. We received a ton of answers but you can see what the top 5 were here.

Now, we want to let you know what we think. We asked a handful of our staff what their top shows were, both at Logjam venues and elsewhere. We also asked a bonus question to see what their favorite new album release was. Some of the staff got a little excited (and indecisive) and elaborated quite a bit. With so many great shows and good new music, it’s hard choosing favorites.

Get to know the Logjam crew a little more and check out the Staff Picks below. Curious about the albums listed? We made a playlist that includes all our favorite albums, so you can take a listen!

Hardest question of the year, every year. I’m going to have to go with Excess by Automatic. All-female band and some heavy synth-rock. Tight. Top songs from the album: “New Beginning,” “Venus Hour,” and “Automation.”

Campbell Collins, Promotions Manager

Favorite Logjam Show
Wilma: Yola or Marcus King
KettleHouse: Tank and the Bangas supporting Trombone Shorty. Hands down. SO underrated.

Favorite Show (outside of Logjam)
Paul Cauthen at The Old Saloon in Emigrant, MT or John Mayer at the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle. Love me some John.

Favorite Album
Lizzo’s Special was a banger and her single “Grrrls on it sampling the Beastie Boys “Girls” was phenomenal, but I cannot lie, Harry’s House by Harry Styles has been on repeat since it dropped this summer. Young Blood by Marcus King had my favorite single on it, “Hard Working Man”. I blasted it in the car every afternoon when I was heading out to the Amp for a show.

Ryan Torres, Vice President of Marketing & Promotions

Favorite Logjam Show
I’m going to highlight several ‘Moments’ of Logjam shows instead:
Billy Strings calling up a member of the audience (Paisley Grey) to sit-in on bass for a few songs.
Dawes having to cut “All your favorite bands” short to evacuate for the rain delay, then coming back on-stage and finishing the song by playing the instruments of The Head & the Heart band members – Rock N Roll!
Black Crowes had their own personal bartender with them on stage throughout the entire show… genius!
Shakey Graves Impressive Pink Floyd cover.
Sierra Ferrell burping into the microphone for soundcheck was pure gold.
Trey Anastasio debuted “Six and One Half Minutes.”
Bastille jumping into the crowd, running up to the patio, and then climbing onto the roof for a solo.
Over 100 shows in the venue and we hadn’t seen that before!
Sweet Groovalicious selling out The ELM! Always great to see the local community supporting local music.
The HU: Hands down the most interesting show of the year. It’s not everyday that you get to catch a throat-singing metal band from Mongolia in the Mountains of Western Montana.
Modest Mouse: The energy inside the Wilma for their Lonesome Crowded West Tour kick off was palpable!

Favorite Show (outside of Logjam)
Railroad Earth at Sweet Pea
String Cheese Incident at Hulaween
Fruition at Logger Days
Pinky & the Floyd at Bridger Brewing
