Dead Sky Announces Grateful New Year’s Eve Run in Bozeman & Missoula
Bozeman-based, Grateful Dead tribute band Dead Sky will close out 2024 in Montana, performing at The ELM in Bozeman on Monday, December 30th and the Top Hat in Missoula on New Year’s Eve, Tuesday, December 31st! Bozeman bluegrass favorites North Fork Crossing will open at The ELM while the Missoula show will feature extra long sets from Dead Sky — no opener.
Since forming in 2019, Dead Sky has brought together a talented ensemble of Bozeman musicians dedicated to spreading the timeless energy, unity, and good vibes of the Grateful Dead to both longtime fans and new generations of Deadheads.
These performances carry special meaning for Dead Sky and their Montana fanbase, as they will be the first without beloved keyboardist Joe Kirchner, who sadly passed away earlier this year. Joe can never be replaced, but the music never stops. As such, Dead Sky will be bringing special guest keyboard players with them each night.
The band recently shared a message with fans on social media: “In our last post, we mentioned the music… Joe’s love for it, our love for it, your love for it. It’s the common thread that ties this whole community together. So, mark your calendars for December 30th and 31st. We booked these dates over the summer, and we’ve decided to carry on with them, greeting the New Year’s air with song. We will need your voices to help us sing them. It’ll be a family affair. Bring your hugging arms, your singing voices, and your dancing feet. Wear your tie-dye and your silly wigs. We can’t wait to see all of you.”
This year has also marked a deep loss for Deadheads worldwide, with the passing of Grateful Dead founding member and bassist, Phil Lesh. Dead Sky will honor his memory as they take the stage, celebrating both his musical influence and the lasting legacy of the Dead.
Don’t miss these special New Year’s celebrations—get your tickets now, prepare to dance, sing, and welcome 2025 with the joyous spirit of the Grateful Dead!

About Dead Sky
A one-off night of Grateful Dead music at the Filling Station in Bozeman, Montana unexpectedly inspired the creation of dedicated tribute project Dead Sky, featuring three-part harmonies, an ever-expanding repertoire, and a passion for the music and the culture of the Dead.
Since January 2019, Dead Sky has made it their mission to spread the good vibe and camaraderie of the Grateful Dead to old and new Deadheads alike. As veterans of the Montana jam band scene, the members of Dead Sky continue to bring their musicality, energy, and gift for improvisation to an ever growing fan base that is quickly reaching outside the borders of Montana.
Formed by guitarist Joe Knapp, this six-piece band features Kelly Nicholson (vocals), Luke Flansburg (vocals/lead guitar), Jess Atkins (vocals/lead guitar), Rich Robiscoe (bass), and Joe Sheehan (drums). You may recognize these musicians from other Bozeman bands such as Pinky and the Floyd, MOTH, Tsunami Funk, Hooligans, Cure for the Common, Dusty Pockets, and Kelly Nicholson Band.
Dead Sky has played venues such as The Elm (Bozeman, MT), The State Room (Salt Lake City, UT), Top Hat (Missoula, MT), and Bozeman’s annual Sweet Pea Festival.
