Local Spotlight: Missoula’s Norwell Drop New Video and Confirm Album Release Party at Top Hat

Emerging from the shadows of the Missoula music scene, indie rock band Norwell have confirmed their Album Release Party at the Top Hat on Saturday, September 15, 2018. Along with the announcement, the band has unveiled an official music video for their brand new single.

The single, “2 1 \” (pronounced ‘to one side’) comes off their forthcoming debut album There Is Nothing That Cannot Happen To Someone. Songwriter and front man Brady Schwertfeger did most of the writing and arranging for the new song, while bandmate Max Dutcher helped craft the guitar riff and backing beat. The track also features friend and collaborator Ira Wolf on vocals.

According to Brady, the piece is “focused on comfort and familiarity with an imaginary life and other person, a made-up world that the subject enters near bedtime. There’s a touch of guilt, and a recognition of futility, but ultimately a resolution that things will probably be alright.”

The video was mostly filmed in the basement of the old Highline Studios, with the help of Brady’s friends Dillon Jenkins and Abi Baumann. Projections, ethereal lights, and dark surroundings fit the desired scene of nighttime imagination.

There Is Nothing That Cannot Happen To Someone was written and recorded over a 2 and a half year span between a converted barn loft and a pro-grade home studio. It was made possible with the help of Jon Filkins and Sarah Marker (Arrowleaf), James Riach (Catamount, No Fancy), Dan Weiss (Mendelssohn), and a host of other accessory players “turning simple to symphony.”

All in all, the debut project is the culmination of Brady’s thoughtful and contemplative approach to songwriting.

“This project has felt strained in many directions for much of its existence, between members, between writing and recording, between wanting to play live and wanting to finish the recordings, between wanting people to hear it and wanting to make sure it’s listenable, between jobs and obligations, etc. I think I’ve come to terms with enough of it all to unveil it to the world, something I’ve been looking forward to for a long time.”
