Sturgill Simpson Announces Concert at KettleHouse Amphitheater
Acclaimed alt-country rocker Sturgill Simpson will bring the Why Not? Tour to KettleHouse Amphitheater on Sunday, September 22, 2024.
Since his debut album High Top Mountain was released in 2013, Sturgill Simpson has become one of the most notable names in country music. He’s been universally praised for his unique and dynamic sound. Indiewire has described it as “a mesmerizing and sometimes bewildering mix of traditional country sounds, contemporary philosophy, and psychedelic recording-studio wizardry.”
His second album, Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Americana Album. His third album, 2016’s A Sailor’s Guide To Earth, was nominated for Album of the Year and won Best Country Album at the 59th Grammy Awards. Sturgill departed from his country roots in 2019 with the album Sound & Fury, which he described as a “sleazy, steamy, rock ‘n’ roll record.” The Guardian called it a “hugely exciting album that underlines Simpson’s status as a daring, restless, and unique artist.” He switched up his sound again when he released the bluegrass albums Cuttin’ Grass Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 and The Ballad of Dood and Juanita.

Respected, beloved and fiercely independent, Sturgill Simpson is set to make his highly anticipated return to music this year with the release of the forthcoming full-length album, Passage Du Desir, under a new name, Johnny Blue Skies. The eight-song album was produced by Johnny Blue Skies and David Ferguson and recorded at Clement House Recording Studio in Nashville, TN and Abbey Road Studios in London, England.
Simpson and his band—Kevin Black (bass), Robbie Crowell (keys), Laur Joamets (guitar) and Miles Miller (drums)—will also make their long-awaited return to the road this fall with the “Why Not?
