About Hawkers Make History

Join the Bozeman High School “Hawkers” Speech and Debate team for an evening of inspiring performances and an intimate talk with former team member and Emmy Award-winning producer Per Saari (“Big Little Lies”). The evening’s festivities will also include live music, a complimentary dessert bar sponsored by Wild Crumb and Sweet Pea Bakery, a cash bar with wine and beer, and a big-ticket raffle.

The event will be held on May 17 at The ELM from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Tickets are $40 for individual seats.

This fundraiser is a unique opportunity to learn about Per Saari’s star-studded path from Hawker to Hollywood, working with Robert Redford as an executive at his production company Wildwood before partnering with Nicole Kidman as co-founder of Blossom Films (“Big Little Lies,” “Nine Perfect Strangers”). All proceeds go toward sending 31+ Bozeman High students to the National Tournament in Phoenix in June, as well as funding an inaugural trip to Tanzania this summer to launch a Pan-African Speech and Debate League. BHS students and coaches will teach African students research methods, writing skills, and competitive debate in a two-week intensive camp, culminating with a multi-school Speech and Debate tournament.

The BHS Hawkers are currently three-peat state champions and finished 11th in the country at last year’s national tournament among more than 5,000 high school students from nearly 2,000 schools.

The Bozeman High School Speech and Debate team qualifies as a nonprofit under IRS Code Section 501(c)(3). Donations to benefit the Hawkers can be made here.
