Artist Spotlight: Passafire Will Bring New Album To Missoula

On June 8th, Logjam Presents will welcome back the ever-growing genre-bending, prog-rock-reggae group Passafire to Missoula. Touring on their 6th studio release, Longshot, this Savannah, GA based quartet has been on the steady climb since their conception in 2003.

The new album’s content was “inspired by people, places, and experiences Passafire has shared since forming as a band” (Grateful Web). The title nods to the up-and-comers in the industry that “making it in music is a long-shot” and the album visits themes of growing up, finding truths, and overcoming challenges.

Sound familiar? Think again. Pulling from jam-based influences like Phish and Umphrey’s McGee, to edgier roots-reggae like John Brown’s Body, the group has a sound all of their own. Even Mr.Lif, a well known hip-hop artist, made his way onto the album for the featured-collab, Blow

Passafire grooves in the pocket between genres, and when asked about their live performance, Mike DeGuzman states “In general, we always strive to put on a high-energy show. We also try to include extended improvisational sections to our songs along with adding new arrangements whenever possible. This makes it fun for us, while creating unique moments for the fans that you can’t get from just listening to the album.” (Prog-Sphere)
