Free, Free, Free: A Rundown of The Top Hat’s Weekend Shows

After shelling out cash on barbecue supplies and fireworks, few things are more attractive than those with the word FREE in front of them. This weekend, The Top Hat will offer three free shows, Milltown Damn, Useful Jenkins, and Crow & the Canyon back-to-back-to-back!

THURSDAY (Jul 6): Milltown Damn

 

Led by former lead-guitarist for the Lil Smokies, Pete Barrett, Milltown Damn represents the local Missoula bluegrass scene. The group plays more traditionalist bluegrass, comprised of Caleb Dostal (Banjo), Pete Barrett (Guitar), Troy Morgan (Bass), Paul Scarr (Mandolin), and Henry Reich (Fiddle)

FRIDAY (Jul 7): Useful Jenkins

 

Exuding sunshine and festival vibrations is the 5-piece known as Useful Jenkins. The band builds on a bluegrass foundation, adding four part vocal harmonies and other genres (funk, hip-hop, etc) for a “strong, clean, and unique sound.” The up-beat result has been pleasing festival-goers and audiences in the region; building their fan-base since 2007.

SATURDAY (Jul 8): Crow & the Canyon

 

Known for their “charismatic and engaging performance,” Crow & the Canyon will bring a Portland-based brand of spirited Americana to The Top Hat on July 8th. The group, playing together since 2014, exists in the genre-overlap between folk, Americana, bluesy-country, and straight-forward bluegrass.
