A Logjam Conversation With The Glitch Mob (Interview)
Logjam Presents got the opportunity to learn a bit more about electronic music trio The Glitch Mob ahead of their performance at The Wilma in Missoula on May 16th. Check out the conversation below:
LP: After a brief hiatus, what made you guys want to get back in the studio and head back on tour?
TGM: We didn’t actually take a hiatus, it’s more that we work in terms of album cycles. We toured our last album heavily, then went back into the studio to write See Without Eyes. It took about a year and a half to write.
LP: How does the songwriting process work for an electronic music trio?
TGM: For this album, we started writing a ton of sketches. We had about 25. We then chose the ones we liked the most and whittled it down to a cohesive album from there.
LP: Do you improvise parts of your performance? How much of a performance changes from show to show?
TGM: We do have parts of improvisation planned throughout the show. There are moments of complete free improv, and we also add new subtle layers to each song to create live versions.
LP: Tell us a bit about Blade 2.0 and what upgrades have been made?
TGM: With Blade 2.0, there are a ton of performance upgrades. It’s a lot faster and more reliable, and we have these big touch screens which are a lot of fun to play. Beyond that, we don’t have a video wall this time. The idea was to let the music speak.
LP: How much does each member interact with the Blade?
TGM: Each person has a station with touch screens for notes, a button controller for backup, and a drum kit.
LP: Can you give Missoulians a sneak preview of the type of set they can expect? Will we hear a lot of music from the new album?
TGM: You’ll hear music from our whole catalog: new stuff, old stuff, remixes and collabs.
LP: Do you guys have any expectations for Montana?
TGM: We love Montana, and have spent time there exploring nature.
LP: Have you played in Montana before? What was that experience like?
TGM: This is our first time playing Montana!
LP: How can Missoula concert goers ensure they have the best possible time at your show?
TGM: Come with an open mind, ready to dance it off.
