Gritty Texas Country Rock: Whiskey Myers to Perform Missoula Concert

Gritty, Texas-based, southern rock band Whiskey Myers will perform a live concert at The Wilma on June 25, 2019 with support from fellow country rocker Brent Cobb.

The band debuted their red dirt sound on 2008’s Road Of Life, but it was their 2011 follow-up Firewater that earned them the #1 position on the Texas Music Charts. In 2014, they released Early Morning Shakes, which broke into the Top 10 on the Billboard Country Chart, a testament to their rigorous DIY work ethic and endless supply of passion and drive. Esquire called them “the real damn deal,” while Country Weekly said they combine “greasy Southern rock riffs with countrified songwriting and Texas grit for something wholly unique,” and Playboy dubbed them “the new bad boys of country music.”

Released in 2016, their most recent album, Mud, finds the band scaling new heights of songwriting and musicianship, with searing guitars, soulful vocals, and indelible hooks. For the recording sessions, the band’s five founding members—Cody Cannon on lead vocals and guitar, Cody Tate and John Jeffers on guitars, Gary Brown on bass, and Jeff Hogg on drums—fleshed out their sound with the addition of fiddler/keyboard player Jon Knudson and percussionist Tony Kent, who are both now full-time members. Pop Matters spoke highly of the album:

“On the whole, Mud is an album that feels like it could accompany both a road trip away from the south or an emotional trip back. It’s a statement of willingness to change, but also of recognising the power of the past and of home. It’s also a clear affirmation of Whiskey Myers’ place amongst the pre-eminent country acts of the millennial generation.”
