About Chali 2na

Chali 2na, renowned for his roles in Jurassic 5 and Ozomatli, graces the Miners Foundry stage on Thursday. With his distinctive deep baritone voice, Chali 2na, born Charles Stewart Jr., spearheaded the West Coast underground favorite Jurassic 5, rising as its prominent figure.

Originally from southside Chicago, Chali 2na found refuge from drugs and gang life in graffiti and music. He relocated to Los Angeles in his mid-teens, affiliating himself with the rap collective the Unity Committee, featuring Cut Chemist and Marc 7even. Before Jurassic 5’s success, Chali 2na co-founded Ozomatli, blending worldbeat, rock, hip-hop, and Latin dance/funk in their music.

Chali 2na’s impact soared with Ozomatli’s 1998 self-titled album and Jurassic 5’s acclaimed “Quality Control” (2000), setting benchmarks in West Coast hip-hop and Latin funk. As a sought-after collaborator, he featured on tracks for Swollen Members, Linkin Park, Blackalicious, among others. His solo career, marked by the “Fish Market” mixtapes in 2004, culminated in the release of his debut solo album, “Fish Outta Water,” in 2009 on the Defcon label. Continuing his musical journey, he has extensively toured the globe with his band, the House Of Vibe.

The House of Vibe revolutionizes music, prioritizing electric atmospheres over perfection. Their ensemble of visionary producers, versatile lyricists, and virtuoso musicians crafts genre-defying live performances that seamlessly journey through rock, reggae, jazz, hip-hop, and R&B, captivating audiences with daring, high-energy creations.

Originating from Anthony “Brew” Brewster’s Culver City home, doubling as a recording studio, the House of Vibe attracted artists like Kanetic Source, Chali 2na, and Darius Rucker.

Chali has collaborated produced songs with everyone from Black Eyed Peas, Linken Park, Mos Def, The Polish Ambassador, Stephen Marley, Eminem, Slightly Stoopid, The Movement, Justin Timberlake, De La Soul, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Lyrics Born, Talib Kweli, Krafty Kuts, HIRIE, DJ Shadow, Z-Trip, The Funk Hunters, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, K’NAAN, Trombone Shorty, Blackalicious, Roots Manuva, Mix Master Mike, The Roots, Beenie Man, Naughty Professor,  and so many more.

Chali 2na appeared at notable festivals like: Cali Vibes, Cali Roots, Shambhala, Rifflandia, Bonnaroo, JamCruise, Closer To The Sun, Victoria Skafest, Fiji Rock Festival, Earth Frequency Fest, VI Jam Fest, LA’s 50th Anniversary of HipHop Party, Levitate, Fractal Forest, Royal Arena Festival, Hillside Music Festival, Bear Creek Music Festival, Lightning in Bottle and many many more.

About DJ Shub

Social activism and a feverish dance party make a tantalizing combination and 2022 JUNO winner for Contemporary Indigenous Artist of the Year, Dan “DJ Shub” General is the grand marshal we nominate to lead this jubilant parade. Shub is a true original: a title-holding battle DJ/producer, a joyful collaborator and a non-stop creator who skillfully weaves craft, message and heritage. Since exiting A Tribe Called Red, Shub has continued adding jewels to his “Godfather of PowWowStep” crown. War Club is Shub’s latest celebration of Indigenous power: a special filmed on Six Nations of the Grand River Reserve in Ontario that features Shub’s trademark finger-smoking scratch-a-thons, an all-ages cast of traditional dancers, and plenty of bustles shaking to outstanding musical collaborations with Phoenix Pagliacci, Boogát and Fawn Wood that tells the tale of a young girl searching for her brother with the help of an enchanted war club. Shub’s uncompromising pride in Aboriginal heritage and talent is the driving force behind his art. Join the parade – Shub’s made sure there’s enough hip hop, Indigenous culture, power, protest and humanity for all of us.
