About Forward Montana Foundation
Mission: Our mission is to educate, engage, and organize young Montanans to shape their democracy to improve their lives and the lives of their fellow Montanans.
Vision: We envision a Montana in which young people drive policy discussions and their friends to the polls; a Montana in which young people turn out for each other, just like they turn out for the issues they care about; a Montana where young people’s voices and actions echo through the halls of the State Capitol and the local school board; a Montana where young people’s votes define elections and the makeup of our government.
History: Forward Montana was founded in 2004 by a group of passionate college students at the University of Montana who felt like there were a lot of barriers to getting young people involved in politics. Their first fights were at the university and local level, and focused on recycling, renewable energy, sexual assault and tenant rights.
Since 2004, FMF has registered tens of thousands of new and young voters, trained hundreds of leaders, and mobilized thousands of young Montanans to vote. We are the largest non-partisan voter registration drive in the state and Montana’s largest youth civic engagement program.
