About 'Higgins Ridge'

When a raging wildfire surrounded 20 smokejumpers on a remote Idaho ridge on Aug. 4, 1961, a skilled helicopter pilot from Missoula’s Johnson Flying Service set out to search for them. What transpired next is seared into the survivors’ memories. Montana PBS shares the story of brotherhood and persistence using interviews that are part of the oral history collection at the National Museum of Forest Service History.
