The Top Hat is happy to welcome back Missoula-based indie rock, post grunge band Magpies live in concert on Saturday, November 24, 2018.
Magpies are an indie rock, post grunge band from Missoula, Montana and have drawn comparisons to bands like Sonic Youth, Pixies and, “B-52’s meets Yo La Tengo”.
Since leasing their first demo in 2007-The Diablo Highway Sessions, they have continued to record and consistently tour for the past decade. Releasing Pica Pica in 2009, Pretty Big Time in 2012, a 2014 7” split with VTO, 2015’s Tornado and most recently Annex in early 2017.
The band was founded by husband/wife duo Tolan Harber- guitar, vocals and Samantha Pollington- bass, vocals. Rounding out the rest of the band is Hank Donovan on guitar and Aaron Soria on drums.
Former members of Oblio Joes and Secret Powers share their midlife crises with the good people of the multiverse.
Careening out the ashtray like a phoenix terrified of losing it’s edge, Post-Whatever band FUULS establishes their panicked dynamism through metempsychosis. The boys went soul searching and have returned to offer a beehive of pissed off notes and sweet existential nothings.
“These are tight songs with unpredictable transitions. Cornelius plays quick, searing guitar solos while Cave swaggers around his corner of the stage and Soria’s long black hair whips through the air while he batters his bright green drum set.”
