The theme of Public Land & Sacred Ground: Western Writers Bear Witness will focus on the unique heritage of American wilderness, public lands and sacred grounds. Admission will be free to the public but registration is required on the festival website: macleanfootsteps.com.
This year’s Festival will include writers and artists – native and non-native – who will present their work and share ideas on the evolution of national parks, decolonization of American literature and history, and the literary inspiration that comes from the unique heritage of American wilderness and public lands. These authors include Timothy Egan, Terry Tempest Williams, Kevin Red Star, Doug Peacock, John N. Maclean, Rick Bass, Debra Magpie Earling, ML Smoker, Shane Doyle, Michael Punke, Sally Thompson, Tarissa Spoonhunter and Peter Stark, among others. Former Governor Steve Bullock will MC the Saturday evening Gala Dinner and auction of the Kevin Red Star painting, Sacred Ground, Crown Butte at The Wilma. Gala dinner tickets are available on the festival website.
