Award-winning psychedelic alt-rock band, The Flaming Lips, will perform their famed album Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots live at KettleHouse Amphitheater on Friday, August 25, 2023.

Led by eccentric frontman, Wayne Coyne, The Flaming Lips formed in Oklahoma in 1983. Over the years they’ve released 16 studio albums. Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots is their tenth studio album, released on July 16, 2002. The album has received universal acclaim and became their first album to be certified gold.  The final track, “Approaching Pavonis Mons by Balloon (Utopia Planitia)”, won a 2002 Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.

To date, the band has been nominated for six Grammy Awards, and won three times. In 2002, Q Magazine included them on their list of “50 Bands to See Before You Die.” In 2007, they were nominated for a BRIT Award for “Best International Act”.

The Flaming Lips last played KettleHouse Amphitheater in 2018 and the show was filled with plenty of extra theatrics and an array of props (photos). We’re looking forward to having them back and know a lot of fans will appreciate this concert landing on a Friday!

About The Flaming Lips

Released in July 2002, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots remains the commercial high-water mark in The Flaming Lips’ wild four-decade journey, giving the GRAMMY® award-winners their first RIAA certified Gold Record. As the eagerly awaited follow-up to 1999’s masterwork, The Soft Bulletin, Yoshimi proved that singer/guitarist Wayne Coyne and multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd had yet another masterpiece in them.

Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots is a sci-fi-themed quasi-concept album that cast The Flaming Lips’ most playful and profound songs to date in a wondrous swirl of ambient electronics, digital beats, and psychedelic splendor. The record yielded the band’s top-streamed track, “Do You Realize??” (a timeless stargazing anthem that, in 2009, was named the Official Rock Song of the band’s native Oklahoma) and also landed the Lips their first-ever Grammy Award® win for the cosmic album-closing instrumental “Approaching Pavonis Mons by Balloon (Utopia Planitia).”
